The Label Makers has made its foray into digital print production after investing in the UK's first Xeikon 3030.
The Bradford-based business has signed for the upgraded 330mm web-width entry model machine at the Label Expo show in Chicago last week (17 September).
Employing 52 staff, the label-printing business specified the new Xeikon machine with a finishing line for offline label enhancement.
The post-press line enables the business to offer both hot and cold foiling, embossing and die-cutting.
David Webster, managing director at The Label Makers, said: "The combination of the Xeikon digital engine and a highly sophisticated finishing line means we can truly satisfy customer requirements for premium-quality short-run work at competitive rates.
"The market is requiring greater flexibility from its supply base with shorter and variable print runs and this latest investment programme means we will have the facility to deliver the expectations of our customers irrespective of run length."
The company's latest machine complements a printing setup that features flexographic, lithographic, letterpress and silk-screen production technologies.
According to Webster, the benefits of digital print technology will enable the business to offer services such as personalisation.
"Customers are already looking to this as a potential way to differentiate their products from the competition, especially at the high-end of the market. By adding these capabilities we open up a whole range of new possibilities," he added.
Established in 1963, it serves a client base that includes customers in the food, beverages, personal care, petro chemical and decorative coatings sectors.
The company's new Xeikon 3030 features a 330mm web width and offers output speeds of up to 9.6m per minute.
It is part of the manufacturer's 3000 series of digital label presses that includes the high-volume 3300 model, the 19.2m per minute 3500 flagship machine and the new entry-level Xeikon 3050, which is targeted at print businesses making a foray into wide-width label printing.
