Tyler Morning Telegraph in Texas (USA) has installed Proimage's Oncolor Eco ink optimisation software to enhance the Proimage workflow system.
'I believe we will pay for the Oncolor Eco software, installation and hardware in less than 12 months,' says Andrew Clyde, the Tyler Morning Telegraph's chief operating officer.
'For December 2008, our second month of usage, we realised a 13.7 per cent total ink saving and a total cost saving of 25.5 per cent.
'The ink lay-down is more consistent on the press and we have noticed faster startups and less waste.
'The plates clean up faster on startup due to the fact they are not carrying colour ink that is not needed.' Oncolor Eco automatically reduces ink consumption on offset presses while maintaining high print quality and consistency.
It automatically analyses PDF files and determines the exact amount of ink needed to produce the best quality.
The result is higher quality print using less ink.
The software automatically optimises CMYK separations, eases colour registration, restores ICC colour management and intelligently recognises non-ICC CMYK colour source spaces.
It ensures that necessary ink coverage is never exceeded for both images and text.
'Oncolor Eco integrates seamlessly into the workflow without slowing down the process - and it requires very little user intervention,' says John Huseth, the Tyler Morning Telegraph's IT technician.
'The software is easy to use and maintain.
'It also provides good tracking data for ink savings.' Oncolor Eco has become an integral part of the newspaper's automated Proimage workflow process.
This takes files from APT pre-press systems, optimises ink usage, controls output to two Fuji Luxel V-6 CTP machines, load balances the two CTP devices, and provides ink data to Perretta systems for ink setting - providing seamless integration and complete control from anywhere, via a standard web browser.
